Bethesda Conservatory of Dance is a Bethesda, MD studio directed by Colleen Snyder, a Dance Masters of America-certified instructor with a dance/movement therapy background. Its stated mission is to ‘provide low pressure, high quality dance instruction’ in a kind, encouragement-based setting for recreational and aspiring dancers from age 2 through teens in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, acro and hip hop. It has won a Best of Bethesda Award and runs a September-to-June season plus summer programs.

About

This class uses music and props to engage our students in developmentally appropriate movement. Basic ballet and tap shapes and steps are introduced along with developmental concepts such as crossing the mid-line, balancing, identifying rhythm, as well as gross and fine motor skills in a traditional class structure. We encourage the children to integrate their evolving movement vocabulary as well as explore new movement options during creative movement activities. We have big goals for our little dancers, but our priority is that the children enjoy class. We want them to love dance as much as we do!

Required equipment

Boys: Black sweatpants, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes. Girls: Any solid color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes without laces or ties.

Activity policies

Cute class, and the first level that is no longer parent required. You can watch the kids on a TV that shows the class, which is nice, though the waiting area is small and as a result my sense was they discouraged parents hanging out much past drop-off.
